Carolina has showed steady improvement after an 0-2 start, gaining 3 straight wins over two of the top teams in the East in Buffalo and Boston. Carolina has impressed me with their ability to take on top-level teams and find a way to win, and their victories are in large part to the hot scoring of Jeff Skinner and multiple point performances by Jussi Jokinen and Joni Pitkanen. Cam Ward has been solid so far, posting a .914 SV% over the 5 games he's played, but the Hurricanes have allowed a few too many shots through on some nights. Defence has to play better in front of Ward for the win streak to continue, but the Hurricanes have some pieces in place to maintain a playoff spot in the East with continued improvement and hard play.
St Louis seeks to snap a 2 game skid at home as they host the Hurricanes, but it certainly won't be an easy task. Jaroslav Halak hasn't had the start to the season Blues fans had hoped for, although back-up Brian Elliott has held down the fort fairly well while Halak tries to find his game. Goals have been a bit hard to come by for the Blues, and top level talent like David Backes and T.J Oshie will have to step up while David Perron and Andy MacDonald heal from concussion related symptoms. Without two of their top forwards, the dearth of scoring in St Louis will get much worse before it gets any better. The Hurricanes should be able to leave St Louis with 2 points for the win, extending their win streak to 4.
