A lengthy layoff for Detroit means that the floundering Blue Jackets will be facing off against a well-rested Red Wings squad who will be looking to continue their dominant start to the season. The Red Wings have been nothing short of spectacular already this year, and their 4-0 start doesn't even justify how solid this team has been in both ends of the rink, allowing only 5 goals in their 4 games. Ian White has enjoyed a solid start to the season, playing 20+ minutes and rewarding the Red Wings faith in him with 3 points and a +4 rating. With a strong offensive attack lead by the usual suspects (Hudler, Franzen, Datsyuk etc) the Wings shouldn't have much trouble with the winless Blue Jackets.
Columbus will be without Jeff Carter, who suffered a fractured foot and has been placed on the IR. His absence will definitely be felt by a team yet to gain a victory, and whose fans are desperately looking for something to cheer about. The Jackets have been outscored 20-12 in the season so far and with sloppy defensive play in conjunction with, at times, questionable goaltending the Blue Jackets are in some serious trouble if they don't find a way to seal up the defensive gaps. Offseason acquisition James Wisniewski is yet to see a game as he continues to serve his 8 game suspension for a pre-season incident with Cal Clutterbuck. His presence on the powerplay and in his own end is sorely needed, but even with Wisniewski in the line-up, the Wings would outclass the Jackets. This one won't be pretty for Columbus fans, and Detroit should blow them out at home.
