(1) Los Angeles Lakers vs. (5) Utah Jazz
The Lakers barely resemble their championship form from a year ago. As a result, new adjectives seize to describe them, including bored and complacent. With the Jazz reeling into town, the Lakers will need to recover their intensity and drive if they expect to move on. Nevertheless, the Jazz are missing two of their starters and have match-up problems when it comes to the Lakers’ bigs (Gasol, Bynum, and Odom). The series will likely be dictated by the Lakers’ emphasis on winning.

(3) Phoenix Suns vs. (7) San Antonio Spurs
The home team has won each game in the regular season match-up between the Spurs and Suns, with the Suns winning their two games by a margin of 11.5 points, while the Spurs snuck away with only a 3 point victory on their home floor. In all three games, Steve Nash has had his way with the Spurs’ point guards, averaging over 20 points and 12 assists. The San Antonio Spurs will need to come away with an essential road victory and have some answers for Nash if they plan on moving on to the Western Conference finals.
