Signs of a Fake Online Sports Betting Site

March 22nd, 2026

Signs of a Fake Online Sports Betting Site

Reputable, online betting websites offer many benefits to serious players; however, there are also fake sports betting websites that are out to rob customers of their money. Players who bet online have the right to be concerned about the safety and security of their hard-earned money.

Stay on the safe side and never reveal personal information on any website. Refrain from giving out a credit card number on websites. It is always safer to use a transfer service such as MoneyBookers or PayPal. Many instances of identity theft have occurred from people giving out too much information online to websites that were not trustworthy. These fraudulent websites are quick to sell personal information to the highest bidder.

There are many websites to bet with online. Many legitimate websites are competing for new customers who might not even get a chance to test them out if they fall prey to a fake betting site on their first try. Reputable online betting websites will always indicate which gambling association they belong to. Gambling websites must be owned by a company, or affiliated with a casino to be legitimate. Fake betting sites usually make no mention of belonging to any authority or casino. However, some fake sites will go as far as saying they are affiliated with a casino, but always make sure to call the casino to verify that fact. This is a simple and effective way to verify the identity of the gambling site.

Some of the telltale signs of fake online betting websites are as follows:

They do not have a phone number where customers can reach them. Every legal, operating business must have a phone number, so if the website did not even bother to set up a phone line, then do not bother to bet on the website.

They either do not have customer service, or they only have customer service on a limited basis. Legitimate websites can offer customer service at all times of the day since they outsource the work to countries with cheaper labor rates.

Their deposit options are very limited.

They charge fees for using credit cards to deposit money. This either means the site is fake or is not very successful. Reputable, successful operations tend to absorb the credit card fees on behalf of their customers.

They offer ridiculous, unrealistic incentives, such as bonuses in excess of 200 percent.

Their website and odds are not kept up-to-date. Sometimes they even deliberately post the wrong odds so that in the event that they lose money, they can simply nullify any wagers on the premise of faulty odds.

The rules of the gambling website are always a good indicator of the legitimacy of the website. A fake online betting site will most likely not mention the minimum age requirements, the minimum bid requirements, or how to cash in on winnings. Fraudulent websites sometimes indicate they will pay by check; however, all legal online betting websites offer payments through some kind of money transfer service.
